Do you have or need an International License?

International Licenses may be used for temporary stay in New York State. The are honored by reputable car rental companies such as, Hertz, Ryder and Dollar. They can be used for a period extending up to six months and only if the bearer is not a permenant resident. This can't be used to purchase or obtain a long term insurance for a car (long term insurance is required by NYS law). Short term insurance premiuns with this type of license can be very expensive. You can't obtain a NYS Driver's License with an International License. Your first step towards obtained a NYS license will involve having to get a learner's permit. Please note that only with the proper visa can you obtain a permit.
